Lagos police station under attack, three officers shot by protesters

A report by Premium Times indicates that some #EndSARS protesters attacked the Surulere police division area of Lagos state following the killing of a protester in the area by a police officer.

I was gathered that the ongoing pandemonium in the area has left many injured and some police officers shot. The online medium noted that the spokesperson of the Lagos police command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that three officers where shot and are at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

It was reported that there were shooting incidents or violent arrest of protesters in other parts of the state, including Barracks and Ojuelegba. President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have both pledged comprehensive police reform with Buhari, saying the disbandment of SARS is just a first step in such reform.

It was reported that the protesters were charged with “attempted murder.” The Citizens’ Gavel, a civic tech organization, representing the protesters, said its lawyers “were unable to get them out on bail as the magistrate court does not have jurisdiction.”

In another report, the Senate president, Ahmed Lawan, commended President Buhari for approving the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

Lawan on Monday, October 12, noted that by this move, President Buhari proved that he has a listening ear to the cries of Nigerians who have one way or the other suffered violence in the hands of some members of the squad.
