Traditional Rulership Of Ngugo Obaire
In the year 1897, a
white man came to a famous ancient market called Nkwo Anumaemere and assembled all Ngugo Obaire people there and
addressed them on the issue of a traditional ruler.
Four years later, the white man came back and a man called Oparanwaononauju was appointed a traditional a ruler for Ngugo Obaire while a man from Ochicha called Oparanwachukwu Ezeala was appointed atradional ruler for Ochicha.
At the death of
Oparanwaonunuju, his relation by name Anugwo Nwaonu was installed the
traditional ruler of Ngugo Obaire. He was a warrant chief who attended Ikeduru
customary court located at Eziama Ikeduru. He represented Ngugo Obaire in the
then Mbaitoli/Ikeduru District and in the then Owerri Division.
After the death of
Anugwu Nwaonu, his first son Lambert Uhuegbu Anugwo was installed the
traditional ruler of Ngugo Obaire with the title Nnanyereugo Obaire the 2nd of
Ngugo Obaire, the father Anugwo Nwaonu been the 1st.
At the end of the
Nigerian civil war, for administrative convenience, Ngugo Obaire was merged
with Ikembara as Ngugo/Ikembare autonomous community ruled by H.R.S Eze P.E
Olebara the Eze Udo 1 of Ngugo/Ikembara autonomous community. The Ezeship stool
was rotatory between Ngugo and Ikembara.
In 1996 H.R.H Eze P.E Olebara died and it became the turn of Ngugo Obaire to produce the next Eze. Chief Lambert Uhuegbu Anugwo was installed the Eze Udo the 2nd elect of Ngugo/Ikembara in 1997. Unfortunately, before he could be recognized by Imo state government he died.
In 2002, Ngugo and Ikembara were demerged and each assumed autonomous status. The 1st son of late Eze elect Lambert U. Anugwu by name Polycarp Unaeze Anugwo was selected, installed and present to Ikeduru local government as Eze Obaire 1 of Ngugo Obaire.
He was given the staff of office by Ime state government governed by Chief Achike Udenwa in 2004 as H.R.S Eze P.U. Anugwu, the Obaire 1 of Ngugo Obaire. He is the traditional ruler of Ngugo till date.
