In the year 1897, a white man came to a famous ancient market called Nkwo Anumaemere and assembled all Ngugo Obaire people there and addressed them on the issue of a traditional ruler. Four years later, the white man came back and a man called Oparanwaononauju was appointed a traditional a ruler for Ngugo Obaire while a man from Ochicha called Oparanwachukwu Ezeala was appointed atradional ruler for Ochicha. At the death of Oparanwaonunuju, his relation by name Anugwo Nwaonu was installed the traditional ruler of Ngugo Obaire. He was a warrant chief who attended Ikeduru customary court located at Eziama Ikeduru. He represented Ngugo Obaire in the then Mbaitoli/Ikeduru District and in the then Owerri Division.
